Today is December 1, World AIDS Day.

As every time, this time too, an initiative has been taken to observe the day in accordance with the health regulations in Bangladesh.

World AIDS Day is being celebrated today under the slogan 'Remove inequality, create an AIDS-free world'.

Since 1988, this day has been observed in the world with the aim of creating public awareness and prevention against AIDS.

According to Worldometers, there are 4 crore 41 lakh 36 thousand 134 people with HIV in the world. 15 lakh 40 thousand 69 people have died in the world due to this deadly virus.

The first AIDS patient was diagnosed in Bangladesh in 1989. 14 thousand people have been infected with AIDS in the country. However, the risk is high even though the number of victims is low. Neighboring countries like India and Myanmar are at high risk of this disease.

According to the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS), 28.5 percent of women in the country are unaware of AIDS. However, 71.5 percent of women are aware of at least one AIDS carrier. 36 percent of women are aware of all carriers. Five years ago in 2016, this rate was 29 percent. That is, the awareness rate among women about carriers has increased by 7 percent.
